Conference of the Parties and what to expect at each one
|
Conference of the Parties (COP) is a formal assembly where countries and regional entities convene to discuss and negotiate solutions to global issues under international conventions. The three main COPs address climate change, biodiversity and desertification, stemming from the 1992 Earth Summit.
COP16 on Biodiversity will be held in Cali, Colombia, from 21 October - November 1, focusing on progress towards biodiversity goals. COP29 on Climate Change will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 11 November - 22 November and will tackle finance and carbon credit mechanisms. COP16 on Desertification in Saudi Arabia will be held from 2 December - 13 December and will address land restoration and resilience. COPs engage stakeholders, including businesses, in global environmental solutions, encouraging collaboration on sustainability and climate action.

UNiting Business LIVE Australia: Sustainability in action
|
UNiting Business LIVE Australia, hosted by the UN Global Compact Network Australia, was held 30-31 October in Sydney. This key sustainability event brought together global and local leaders to address Australia's pressing business challenges, focusing on net zero, nature-positive initiatives, human rights and governance. Tailored for Australia’s C-Suite and future sustainability leaders, the programme offered discussions in sustainable finance, climate action, supply chain management and ESG reporting. Attendees gained practical insights to drive meaningful change and propel their organizations toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Navigating Emerging Social and Environmental Challenges event featuring keynote speaker Sanda Ojiambo
|
On 9 October, Global Country Network Canada hosted their Navigating Emerging Social and Environmental Challenges event featuring keynote speaker Sanda Ojiambo, Executive Director and CEO of the UN Global Compact, and expert panelists who explored critical corporate responsibility topics: just transition, climate adaptation and ethical supply chain practices. Split by two panels, Panel A examined the current social and environmental challenges landscape, while Panel B presented strategies to build resilient value chains for sustainable growth by 2030. The event provided tools and insights to help businesses align with SDGs and foster public-private collaboration.

Keep an eye out for the Climate Ambition Accelerator 2025
|
Through Global Compact Country Networks, companies will gain access to best practices, peer-to-peer learning opportunities, practical activities, capacity building and on-demand training.
