Launching the Ocean Investment Protocol: Aligning finance with SDG 14

The UN Global Compact, in partnership with the UN Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEPFI), is hosting a virtual webinar to launch the Ocean Investment Protocol on 28 May. The Ocean Investment Protocol offers a practical framework to help financial institutions, insurers, ocean-based industries and various other stakeholders to align their strategies with Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water. The finance sector can drive meaningful progress toward a healthy and resilient ocean economy by managing environmental risks and tapping into sustainable blue economy opportunities.

Global Country Network Sri Lanka launches new patron model for Sustainable Development Goal leadership

UN Global Compact Country Network Sri Lanka launched a new “patron structure” for its Working Groups—an initiative designed to elevate corporate sustainability leadership. Network participants will take on strategic mentorship roles through this new model, offering guidance and accelerating impactful action aligned with the SDGs. The official signing of the Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) took place on 20 March in Colombo, with the Network’s board in attendance. This event marks efforts to strengthen a collective commitment to responsible business practices and shared progress.

2025 Communication on Progress submission period now open

The submission period for the 2025 Communication on Progress (CoP) officially opened on 1 April. To complete and submit the 2025 CoP, participants are invited to review the 2025 CoP Policy and Requirements, 2025 CoP Questionnaire, online FAQ tool and additional resources on the CoP webpage and UN Global Compact Academy. The CoP monthly virtual Q&A session on 7 May at 9 a.m. EDT is available for further details. Register through the UN Global Compact Events page.  Data from the 2024 CoP Reporting Period is available on CoP Data webpage, which includes CoP Data Visualization Tools. Stay tuned for additional updates on CoP data and new visualization tools later this year!

East Asia’s path to gender equality: New report highlights family-friendly practices and male allyship

UN Global Compact Liaison Office in China marked the 25th anniversary of the UN Global Compact and the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration by launching the “Parents at Work” report on 31 March during the China-Japan-Korea Business Roundtable in Beijing. The report spotlights progress and opportunities in advancing gender equality through family-friendly workplace practices and male allyship across East Asia’s major economies. Drawing from aggregated data via the WEPs Gender Gap Analysis Tool, the report offers quantitative insights into how companies in China, Japan, Korea and the broader Asia and Oceania region are supporting working parents.

2. How to improve safety and health in global supply chains

 

This session features experts discussing actions to improve worker health and safety in global supply chains and strengthen national Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) systems to ensure decent working conditions for all.  Each year, 2.78 million workers die from work-related accidents and 374 million suffer non-fatal injuries. This equates to 7,500 daily fatalities due to unsafe working conditions. Global supply chains present opportunities to promote good OSH practices, especially in countries with inadequate OSH systems.

The Target Gender Equality Accelerator is a high-impact, six-month programme designed for companies participating in the United Nations Global Compact. In collaboration with UN Women, the programme helps businesses translate their gender equality commitments into concrete actions, aligned with best practices and international standards, such as the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs).
