United Nations General Assembly Week: Key Details and Insights
|
The High-Level week of the United Nations General Assembly (20-27 September) presents a unique opportunity for CEOs, business leaders, Heads of State and Government, young SDG advocates and citizens to unite. This week is crucial for addressing the global poly crisis and accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
For participants of the UN Global Compact, the week holds particular significance. The global gathering furthers the public-private dialogue, with thousands of CEOs and business leaders worldwide coming together to accelerate progress on the 2030 Agenda. Forward Faster Now | Asia & Oceania
|
Hosted by the UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei and in collaboration with 14 other Country Networks, the Forward Faster Now regional flagship event took place in Kuala Lumpur on 5-6 August. It brought together a multitude of high-level executives and Country Network affiliates and drew attention to the SDGs.
This new regional event featured more than 300 participants and 70 speakers. Discussion topics included leadership in sustainability, SDG progression, the role of SMEs, personal action and more. The new Compact Journal features a summary of the event and more.

United Nations Global Compact and African Union Commission partnered to boost Global Africa Business Initiative (GABI)
|
The UN Global Compact and the African Union Commission joined efforts on the Global Africa Business Initiative (GABI) on the sidelines of the African Union's Sixth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting (6th MYCM) in Accra, Ghana on 20 July.
Through this collaboration, they aimed to amplify the impact of sustainable business practices across Africa through the Africa Strategy by the UN Global Compact, which aims to build a cohort of accountable and ambitious African companies to seize the continent's opportunities.
Interested participants can also register to request an invitation to GABI's flagship event, Unstoppable Africa, which will be held in New York from 25 to 26 September on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

Upcoming registration for Business & Human Rights Accelerator 2024
|
The Business & Human Rights Accelerator is a six-month programme that activates companies participating in the UN Global Compact across industries and regions. The objective is to help businesses swiftly move from commitment to action on human rights and labour rights by establishing an ongoing human rights due diligence process. The recruitment period for the Accelerator will run through 11 September 2024 – 20 December 2024.

The Peer Learning Groups at the UN Global Compact offer a space for companies to exchange practices and challenges on key sustainability issues. This year, these groups will focus on six priority areas—just transition, gender equality, living wage, water resilience, finance & investment and SMEs—to drive meaningful progress through facilitated sessions, curated resources and group discussions.
